Martin Lopez, AKA Gummy Worms has always been a part in the music scene. With almost every single one of his immediate family members a musician (with his younger brother a high school drum instructor, sister amazing piccolo and pianists, and older brother an admired cello player) it wasn’t a shock that he would soon enough a part of the music industry.
Since the sixth grade Martin has been playing almost every instrument he could get his hands on from the saxophone to the piano, to the clarinet to the flute. The last instrument he kept practicing on was the piano in high school in which he was a bit of an outcast because of his nerdy band kid persona. In high school his sister would always come home late humming the melody to old club bangers like Eifel 65’s “I’m Blue” and DJ Sammy’s “we’re in Heaven” so it wasn’t long before he would be deep into the Techno/House movement.
After high school he got a job and saved up some money to get him self a complete DJ, setup which consisted of some Technic 1200s and a old beat up Vestax mixer. He practiced a lot with the records he bought off his friend and big influence Fonzie. (http://www.myspace.com/fonzienavarro)
Once he got the hang of it he hit the clubs and became friends with as many people in the industry as he possibly could. He then started DJing for the clubs like Aqua, Copper Rhino, Banana Joes, Fat Cat, Clayton’s, Primos and speak easy in his home town of Modesto, CA. After he got a good following, DJ Switchblade from San Francisco, CA Contacted him with an offer to spin some events for his promotion company “Zapatistas” in which he got the chance to spic with bigger acts such as DJ Irene, Teen Wolf, Richie Panic, Sleezemore, Nonewyork, Lucky Date, Diskotech, Bulmiatron, Big Nasty, Eddy Santana, Jeff Morena, DJ Tommy Girl, Frank Beats, DJ Sam Stevens, Faustelo AJ Orbit, and many many more.
After getting out the word out about his Djing skills he then started making music. Learning on his own from just watching other people and youtubing all kinds of tutorials, he started getting the attention of people with his melodic bassy yet sexy dutchy feeling music that will get you moving left and right while at the same time throwing your fist up in the sky.
This San Jose raised, Modesto Based DJ/Producer/Tattoo artist will get your attention weather you like it or not. Keep an eye out for this young kat cause he will be hitting a city near you!!! Oh and about the name… Don’t ask cause he just says “I don’t know, they call me worm and others call me gummy worms, but I don’t like candy what’s so ever :p” lol
